Waxing Advice

Before your appointment:

In order for waxing to be effective the hair should be approximately 1.5cm. For most people this means around 10-14 days worth of growth after you have last shaved, or 4-6 weeks since your last wax.

Please do not use a sunbed or overexpose the area you are having waxed to the sun 24hours before your appointment.

Avoid very hot baths/steam room/sauna immediately before your appointment.

Please advise the beauty therapist if you are taking Roaccutane (sometimes known as Accutane, a drug prescribed for acne) or taking long term steroids, ideally before your appointment.

Please advise the beauty therapist if you have recently had any microdermabrasion/skin peels or use products containing steroids, Retin A or AHAs on the area you are having waxed.

Please advise the beauty therapist if you have sensitive skin, known allergies, or are pregnant as a patch test (waxing and observing of a small area) may be necessary before the treatment.

After your appointment

It is essential to take special care of your skin after your wax treatment.

It is advisable to wear loose, comfortable clothing after body waxing as this prevents any unnecessary friction.

It is advisable to avoid very hot baths, sun exposure, steam rooms, saunas and sunbeds for 12-24hrs.

Avoid reapplying deodorant for 24 hours after an underarm wax.

Waxing treatment are very stimulating to the area so a heat reaction may occur for several hours after the treatment. This usually returns to normal within 24hours but if the reaction persists after this time you should seek the advice of a GP or pharmacist.

As waxing exfoliates the skin, skin may appear a little paler immediately following treatment. Colour will return to normal within a few hours.

You should avoid excessive exercise (as sweat may irritate the skin follicles), swimming (chlorine may irritate follicles), massage, heat, friction and false tan on the waxed area for 24 hours after a treatment.

Between Appointments

Exfoliate and moisturise regularly. Doing this daily is the best way to prevent ingrown hairs.

To maintain results waxing should be repeated every 4-6 weeks.
